How to win a student council election in middle school?

I am running for student council at my middle school but at my school almost everybody votes for the sports players/ popular people. I have good ideas and want to win. What can I do to win. No food/ drink bribes. Any ideas for a speech or what I can do? Thanks in advance.

I overhear a lot of people say they hate reading. This is an opinion I cannot comprehend. I do understand, however, that not everyone knows what they like to read, and, for this, I blame the American school system.

Volunteer Tina Wolter re-stocks books Friday during the quarterly book sale at the Sonoma Valley Regional Library. All the money raised at the sale is used to support the local library.
