My parents are immigrating to the US by the legal way, but my little sister cannot come with them. We don't have anybody to take care of her over there. My very last option is to temporarily get a student visa for her while one of my parents becomes elegible to petition for her. Is this possible? She won't qualify for a Turist Visa. I've heard about F1 visas for college students, what about for an 8-year-old? Thanks for any answers.

I don't understand why there's some anger toward parents who choose to home school their children. The tax dollars are still there. If you don't want to home school no one is saying you have to... Can someone clarify this for me, please?

I notice quite a few students (?) making comments and disparaging remarks about their parents and home school. Do you realize how much better you could do for yourself if you made it your goal to excel in your studies? I can't imagine how difficult it must be for your parents to have to deal with your bad attitudes.
Home study is a great blessing -- it can be your best ally for a strong and smart future. Don't waste your time fighting about it --- study and get on with life.
The answers that are pouring in are showing some real progress. Someone asks: "....but how can they offer an entire education? " it seems to assume that 'they' can't offer enough --- it's now time to find out just HOW they do it.--- THAT is my next question so be watching this forum!

I home school my 13 year old daughter. My other children are either at home or in public school. I am wondering if any other parents and students want to start an area association to socialize our kids and share books and software, information. No fees or stuff like that, just concerned parents.

I am being home schooled. It is an online school called Utah Virtual Academy. I am always distracted by wanted to play video games or be on the Internet. My parents don't know I am having problems focusing because they would put me back in public school which is not what I want. So how do I teach myself that during the day I HAVE to do school not play?

I am currently in public middle school. This was my first year in public school! I have been to 1 private school for a year and was home schooled the rest of my life. I hate public school but my parents say I have to deal with it! I am really great with the work(home schooled or not) but they won't home school me. How I am supposed to get my parents to home school me?

If the children are failing in public school, and the parents are receiving food stamps. Is it alright for the mother to quit her minimum wage job to home school 5 kids while still receiving food stamps and medicaid. She would still get this support if she were working.

My parents seemed really against me going to school, but then I asked about this 1 week attendance thing (Im home schooled btw) and it turns out they don't have that (My dad called for information) And I said I wanted to tour the school (assistant principal invited me) and my mom said I might as well make an appointment with the principal instead. Do you think I'll get to go to school?

I'm just curious
I have a lot of friends that are home schooled, and a few of them desperately want to go to public school, but their parents won't let them (for various reasons). Some of the reasons I don't really understand very well.
So-- would you let them go to public school? Why or why not?
But why not? Just so he could graduate a year early?
