How do I get involved in student films in my community?

March 15th, 2010 | by |

I've been in one student film by a high-school aged director. I met him when he posted a flyer for auditions.
^He and I have since had a falling-out, so he can't help me or anything.

Now I'd like to know other ways to get involved in student films, preferably by high school or college aged people.

You should find out if your city has a film commission. Chances are your state does…then contact them for opportunties. You also might consider contacting a local university with a film studies program…or even the Acadamy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I think they may have internships for high school and university students. I would also advise you to try to resolve your issues with that other director. The film industry is like a small town, and you don’t want to burn any bridges if you know what I mean.

I would browse the internet looking for websites or posts on local filmmaker forums.

talk to teachers, your own teachers, and other film/ect. teachers in your area.

Try your local community college, or any college that’s close by…they are always looking for help !

You would probably want the theater dept.
